Kalaty Rugs: A Well Respected Rug Family

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Kalaty family started making and selling rugs in Iran. In 1979, Mirza Kalaty, grandson of the company’s founder, established the Kalaty Rug Corporation in the United States. Today Mirza’s five sons run the business, and the company remains a family affair.

Because of our long-standing relationship with this established wholesaler, Cyrus Rugs was able to secure exclusive distribution of some of the newest and most beautiful contemporary, traditional, transitional, and tribal designs. Our showcase of select Kalaty rugs for sale in Minneapolis is one of the most unique displays of handcrafted, woven artistry in the region.

Handcrafted in India

Kalaty Rugs are mostly made in India; using the highest quality of Himalayan wool and bamboo silk. Hand-knotted in the traditional matter, the heritage of these rugs goes back hundreds of years. The traditional collection of rugs, as well as a number of tribal rugs, is based on ancient design motifs. Kalaty transitional carpets combine elements of traditional and modern, and the more modern collections are fashion forward works of art designed by top designers.

Kalaty's top collections of handcrafted artistry includes:

  • The Elements Collection – modern rugs, hand-knotted in a Tibetan weave from wool and Silkette
  • The Karaman Collection – transitional and traditional designs with subtle colors, hand-knotted in a Turkish knot weave using 100% wool
  • The Soumak Natural Collection – flat woven rugs using mostly non-dyed wool, mixing traditional and transitional design motifs in muted earth tones
